Earth, Wind, and Fire...

9×12 in. mixed media on watercolor paper.

I have never seen one in person and don’t real know if i care too, but from pictures I have seen forest fires create eerie landscapes to be sure. This was a piece inspired by my sister, who is part of the army of people working for the government that fight these bad boys. I can only imagine the fury and destruction they cause…but in a sense it is also about rebirth and transformation, things that forest areas have been doing for thousands of years…and will continue to do long after we are gone. She is starting to gather a small collection of these, I believe she has three now, from a series of three!!! My favorite one was HAUNTING AFTERMATH.

The Creativity Corner

Hello Friends,

(lots of creativity artwork photos at the bottom of the blog)

Ironically the littlest has been posted here, yet this is the blog topic that i work the most on.

must say, i get carried away with knitting projects of all sorts- but all creative patterns which i invent. to my uttermost surprise a knitting store wanted to buy some of the patterns i created. hmmm… i have things scribbled in this notebook, and it’s in some lingo that i invented. but the drawings seem to be self-explanatory. i’ll see what to do.

lately i had not painted as much as i had anticipated for the summer. early mornings the desert mountain temperatures are fantastic 54 F (about 14-16 C) and i do get up early, the only thing is i take a while to wake up and would rather enjoy watching sunrise while having breakfast. when fully awake, seems like temperatures take quite a spike.

so the knitting resumes indoors and i must close the windows and door as the cross-breeze gets warmer.

since, i have knitted about 15 items ranging from multicolored sleeve-less sweaters, mary-jane baby booties, scarves, mittens, pot-holders, snow hats, and a large wave pattern shawl of exquisite shades of hand-dyed purples, green and blue hues (by Cat Mountain – a lady who dyes yarn so beautifully)!

Around October as the temperatures drop more and i get more knitting projects and paintings completed i plan to take pix of the completed artwork on this huge awesome stone by the pojoaque museum (the indian reservation where i live) on a day they are closed. the lighting will be ideal with the stone background.

as far as the knitting goes, i tend to work on 3-4 projects at once.

i’ve picked up the paintbrushes and painted 2 canvases for some friends and am still learning to remind myself to take a snapshot of them before i give them away.

going to post the only snapshot i have of a freshly painted oil paint of the outdoors. the photo has a slight blur due to movement and upon drying i was so eager to get it out on time for this person’s birthday, that ooops i failed to get an improved quality photo.

so, please be patient with me as this is a lot of work and also a learning process of systematically storing valuable information and pixs. later on, if anyone likes some of my invented patterns, i will post them for free here as a bonus for your patience with me.

i hope to paint more too. found me a new friend who likes to paint as well, and we probably will plan to paint together which will be fun.

i’ll post a couple of pixs i have already of knits + paintings

Enjoy!

Sam

if you have any questions about certain patterns (bc a few were given to me for free, and others i did a “variation on a common theme”, and some altogether my own creation, please feel free to ask and i can point you in the right direction).

Peace,

ssb

Down 4 Repairs

omgosh this art is so gorgeous

9x12in.

Typically when i am being creative 2 to 3 pieces come to completion before my eyes, in a week. Sizes will vary from 9×12 up to 16×20 normally, I dream big but large never seems to work out as well for me…but I sure can hang quite a selection in limited space.  For those that might have been following my blog recently you are aware that I am not feeling as productive (just two very nice pieces in the past 6 weeks…i know I shouldn’t complain.) . Well the slow period isn’t going to get any better…mother nature has decided to help me take my mind off of it. I work in a nice basement that I have slowly  reclaimed over the years from leaking…i wish i had the same type of basement as I did in Kansas…poured vs. these @#%* cinder blocks. At any rate 6 inches of…

knitting away and….hibernating

i knit my nephew the very first sweater-vest ever! i refined my knitting with you tube of all things!

Completing the project and sewing that last beautiful gold button on the charcoal blue sweater i got too excited and mailed it out. Thankfully i just remembered i DID take a pix of the little vest, so i’ll upload it as soon as i can.

For my younger baby nephew who just turned 2 i started knitting a reversible (thank you you tube for teaching me this)! sweater black and yellow with a few stripes so he can be the handsome bee once i get a matching tuque with itty-bitty antennae…

knitting is my favorite winter/cold weather past-time and i’ve been on a roll : )

it’s very meditational and relaxing. Especially now that i am swamped with a lot of paperwork and about to prepare helping out for Passover.

Looking forward to posting the lovely (i hope) photos, if anything the cool colors of the cashmere wools, and cashmere blends.

so, several pix coming soon!

in the meantime i’ll post 2 pix of my handsome nephews… ImageImageImage

Internet Sabbatical

hello friends,

i decided i will be taking an internet sabbatical for an unspecified amount of time. bc i am too much on the computer, i cannot exactly say how short this time will be. but i need to focus on some priorities in my life and enjoy the outdoors more. My absence may be as short as 1 day (LOL but that’s the way bad habits must be undone) to no more than a month (i highly doubt that, but i could surprise myself)

during this time i will be focusing on health, fitness, face to face friendships, meditation, solitude, introspection, walks in the great outdoors, medical continuing education, hobbies, short term goals, and long term goals.

i will resume then.

 sayonara,

winter knit & summer draw

for whatever reason i encountered a dry spell with drawing the great outdoors outside my place.

so after having an “AH HA!” moment i’ve decided to knit and got on a roll. So, without further ado, i am going to make this blog a bi-seasonal tandem posting of knitting projects completed in the winter and the summer will be drawings. Fall and Spring will have a combo.

it will be a Vivaldi’s four seasons…i will focus on flowers as well during spring to add to the mood of rebirth and blossoming… and in the fall, i’ll add some intricacies w leaves, as i’ve seen some v pretty leaves.

I hope you like the idea of variations on a common 2 themes – the art and the wool – hey maybe i’ll glue wool on my drawings to coalesce both themes ; )

here is only a snippet of what i did this morning… i have knitted a tahitian style bug (which is only partly shown and continued w a cool lizard. it’s hard to tell from the colors.. but it’s electric blue and electric pink…  methinks, why go dreary when it is winter? might as well use cheerful colors and knit interesting critters not found here much.

enjoy!

do you like the idea? yay nay?

view through my bedroom window… : )  another gorgeous day ! (but cooooold)Image

it may look like a sweater for a hamster…but it is the beginning part of a headband. thought i’d start small… but i already am excited and feel like knitting touques,, socks, gloves, sweaters.. : ) maybe my next project will be to knit something cool for my 2 nephews with lizards and other cool stuff
